How it all began – My journey to the Pietenpol Air Camper
My passion for aviation began when I was nine years old and read a children’s book that changed everything. It told the story of two boys, bored during their summer holidays, who stumbled upon a set of plans for building an airplane.
They decided to build it themselves – using bed sheets, a clothesline, an old toolbox, and even the engine from a lawn mower they “borrowed” from the
garden shed. In the end, they actually flew it – and created quite a bit of chaos back home. That story never left me. My first “aircraft” was made of cardboard boxes, fruit crates, and the wheels from an old stroller.
My sister insisted on being the first test pilot – and luckily survived her fast ride down a hill. That’s when I realized: it’s not quite that simple. But the dream was born. Today, many years later, the OUV has given me the chance to make that childhood dream come true – by building my very own Pietenpol Air Camper.

As part of this project, I will document everything in detail and show how to approach such a build step by step – while avoiding common mistakes and unwanted side effects. On YouTube, I’ll be posting regular updates and instructional videos where I share my work, offer insights from my experience, and respond to specific questions. Because let’s be honest: “I’m building an airplane” always sounds cool – but there’s a lot more behind that sentence.
During the build process, you’ll realize how important it is to ask yourself some honest questions – especially in the beginning. If you skip that, the project can quickly become overwhelming. That’s exactly why I founded Angel Aero Design – to share what I’ve learned, provide real insights, and hopefully inspire others to follow their own path in aircraft building.
